During 2020, in Montenegro, 1 314 393.6 t of waste was generated of which 763 270.9 t or 58.1% in sectors Manufacturing, mining and quarrying and other industries. Of total amounts of generated waste during 2020, 343 893.5 t of hazardous waste or 26.2%.
Compared to the previous year, there was an increase of 3.2% in relation to the total amount generated; Agriculture, forestry and fishery sector recorded a decrease of 8.0%; sectors of Manufacturing, mining and quarrying and other industries increase of 1.3%; Construction sector recorded increase of 33.4%; Service activities sectors recorded increase of 9.4 and households decrease of 10.8%.

In 2020, 304 062.7 t of municipal waste was generated or 10.8% less than in 2019. Public utility enterprises collected 273 742.5 t which is 95.3% of total collected amounts. Generated municipal waste per capita amounted 489.4 kg which is for 10.7% less than in previous year.

Total amounts of treated waste including export in 2020 was 1 131 102.6 t, which is 3.3% less than in previous year. From total treated amounts, 654 886.5 t was landfilled/disposed or 57.9%. Recycled amounts of waste recorded an decrease compared to the previous year of 3.4%.

Total amount of treated municipal waste including export, in 2020 was 286 705.2 t which is 11.5% less than in 2019. From total treated amounts, 250 796.9 t was landfilled/disposed or 87.5%.
