Consumer price indices
Prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by consumer price index, in January 2024, as compared to December 2023, increased by 0.5% on average. Consumer prices in January 2024, as compared to January 2023, increased by 4.4% on average. This was influenced mostly by increase in prices of: milk, cheese and eggs; electricity; vegetables; water supply; non-durable household goods; other appliances, articles and products for personal care; postal services; oils and fats. Consumer prices in period January-December 2023 compared to the same period of previous year, were higher for 8.6% in average.
Observing the main groups by purpose of consumption, in January 2024 as compared to December 2023, monthly increase of prices was noticed in the following groups: Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (1.5%); Miscellaneous goods and services (1.3%); Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (1.2%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.1%); Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.0%); Communication (0.9%); Recreation and culture (0.7%), while decrease of prices was recorded in the following groups: Clothing and footwear (-2.7%); Transport (-0.7%); Restaurants and hotels (-0.3%).
Prices of other products and services mostly remained unchanged.
