55th session of United Nations Statistical Commission in New York
The director of Statistical Office, Mr. Miroslav Pejovic, participates in the 55th UN Statistical Commission in New York, upon the invitation of the UN General Secretary.
The presence in the session of UN Statistical Commission held once a year, and gathering heads of all statistical institutions from around the world, is of serious importance for the Statistical Office, having in mind that current activities, future plans and priorities in the field of official statistics are discussed.
During his stay, in the margins of the meeting, the director of Statistical Office, Mr. Pejovic met with the Director General of Eurostat, Ms. Mariana Kotzeva.
The discussions cover both implemented, and next activities on the Population census as well as actions in the area of official statistics in the field of European integration, aimed at the full EU membership that is an absolute priority of Montenegro. On this occasion, the director Pejovic pointed out that all open issues will be considered in the next period, and plans for the implementation of the rest of challenges within the Chapter 18 - Statistics will be defined. Encouraging the mentioned, and with the full support of Eurostat in the future work, Ms. Kotzeva also welcomed the achievements of Statistical Office so far in the fulfilment of this aim.
Additionally, the director Pejovic met with the director of the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, Ms. Lidija Brkovic, and discussed about the forthcoming signing of agreement of cooperation between these two statistical institutes. This will be an opportunity to define models of future cooperation and assistance, which will accelerate the implementation of numerous initiated innovative activities, and further modernization of Montenegrin statistics.
