The Census of Agriculture was implemented in period from 1 October to 1 December 2024, in accordance with Law on the Census of Agriculture (Official Gazette of Montenegro No 77/2024 of 5 August 2024) and  valid Regulations 2018/1091, 2018/1874, and 2021/2286 (EU) of the European Parliament and of the Council, and uniform standards of Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Preliminary results of the census of agriculture comprises basic data on: number of holdings, holder of family agricultural holdings, utilised agricultural area, livestock, and machinery (tractors).

These data are subject to change until final results are released.

Having in mind that changes occurred in international and national legislative framework compared to the Census of Agriculture 2010, aimed at ensuring the data comparability, certain data recalculations were done in line with valid criteria from the census of agriculture, and in line with the EU criteria.

According to the preliminary results of the Census of Agriculture in 2024, the total number of agricultural holdings in Montenegro is 26 711. Agricultural holdings in 2024 utilised 248 234.2 hectars of agricultural area.

The total number of bovines in agricultural holdings was 68 600, sheep 167 344, goats 28 184, pigs 52 272, and poultry 1 361 403.
