The official statistics in modern society nowadays become increasingly important. It is a fundamental of numerous political, economic, social, and other decisions which put more obligations on the official statistical producers to produce relevant, accurate, and reliable official statistical data.
In cooperation with other official statistical producers, Statistical Office produces the official statistical data in line with modern European standards and Eurostat’s recommendations.
Official statistical producers must disseminate official statistical data in line with conditions and deadlines set by the Official Statistics Annual Plan, Official Statistics Programme, and Law on Official Statistics and Official Statistical System (Official Gazette of Montenegro No 18/12 and 47/19).
Official statistical data are available at the same time and under equal conditions to all users, in line with Statistical Release Calendar.
Pursuant to Article 7 of the Law on Official Statistics and Official Statistical System, the official statistical system comprises the official statistical producers, as it follows:
- Statistical Office – Official statistical data;
- Central Bank of Montenegro - Official statistical data;
- Ministry of Finance - Official statistical data;
- Other producers defined by the Programme of Official Statistics.
Statistical Office is the main holder and disseminator of statistical data, as well as responsible professional authority, organiser and coordinator of official statistics system, and it shall represent the official statistics of Montenegro in the international statistical system
Other official statistical producers defined by the Programme of Official Statistics 2024 - 2028 (Official Gazette of Montenegro No 122/23) are:
1. Public Health Institute of Montenegro – Official statistical data;
2. Pension and Disability Insurance Fund of Montenegro – Official statistical data;
3. Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation (By Decision on Amendments to the Decision on Programme of Official Statistics 2024 - 2028 (Official Gazette of Montenegro No 120/24 of 17 December 2024) – official statistical data.
In collecting, producing, processing, and disseminating statistical data, official statistics producers must apply official statistics principles, as well as methodologies and standards for producing statistics under their responsibility, upon the approval of Statistical Office, and in accordance with the Law on Official Statistics and Official Statistical System (Official Gazette of Montenegro No18/12 and 47/19).
