The European Statistics Code of Practice was first adopted by the Statistical Programme Committee (SPC) in 2005. It was subsequently revised by the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) in 2011 and 2017, with the latest revision adopted on 16 November 2017.
The revised Code comprises 16 principles covering the institutional environment, statistical processes and statistical outputs. The Code aims to ensure that European statistics are relevant, accurate and timely, and comply with the principles of professional independence, impartiality and objectivity.
The European Statistics Code of Practice also provides the basis for the implementation of the Quality Assurance Framework (QAF), which ensures the systematic monitoring, management and continuous improvement of the quality of European statistics.
