Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) August 2011


Annual inflation rate increased in August 3.6% compared to rate of 3.0% in July, while the monthly inflation in August increased 0.7%
Monthly inflation measured by Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices in August increased 0.7%. The highest influence of monthly inflation was noticed because of the increase of price for water supply and vegetables. Annual inflation in August amounted +3.6% and it is higher compared to July when it was +3.0%.

When observing the main groups, monthly growth of prices was noticed in the following groups:
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+2.9%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.5%); Health (+0.7%); Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (+0.6%); Transport (+0.2%) and Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+0.1%), while an decrease was noticed in the following groups: Clothing and footwear (-0.2%); Education (-0.2%) and Miscellaneous goods and services (-0.1%). Prices in the groups: Communications; Recreation and culture and Hotels and restaurants remain at the same level as in the previous month.

Positive annual inflation rates in August were observed in the following groups: Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+15.5%); Health (+12.0%); Transport (+6.8%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+4.3%); Communications (+3.0%); Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+1.5%); Hotels and restaurants (+1.4%); Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (+0.5%) and Recreation and culture (+0.2%), while negative annual inflation rates were observed in the following groups: Clothing and footwear (-1.8%); Education (-0.5%) and Miscellaneous goods and services (-0.4%).
