Legal basis for conducting the Crime and Criminal Justice Statistics (Crime Indicators) is Law on Official Statistics and Official Statistical System of Montenegro (Official Gazette of Montenegro 18/12, 47/19).

Purpose of survey
The purpose of survey is to obtain data on criminality, as a socially negative phenomenon.
Data sources
Crime indicators are collected on the basis of administrative sources. Data sources are: Police Directorate, Prosecutor's Council, Secretariat of the Judicial Council, and Directorate for Execution of Criminal Sanctions.
Obligation to protect individual data
The data obtained from administrative sources are only used for statistical purposes and they are published at the aggregated level.
