Based on Article 37 of the Law on Statistics and Statistical System of Montenegro (Official Journal No.69/05), the Council of the statistical system in the first meeting of February 2011. adopted the Standard Classification of Occupations. Standard Classification of Occupations was made according to the principles and system of the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08), and its European version (ISCO-08).

Classification of Occupations carried out by the Federal Bureau of Statistics for the Census in Serbia and Montenegro (2001/2002) which included over 3 000 jobs, which are classified by MSKZ 88 (ISCO 88).

Structure:

Occupations in the standard classification of occupations are classified into four hierarchical levels as follows: gender, type, subspecies and group.
Hierarchical level in the standard classification of occupations indicated by a code containing:
• gender - a one digit number
• type – two digit number
• subspecies – a three digit number
• group - a four digit number
Every job is checked code and title professions.

Standard Classification of Occupations (SKZ) is a mandatory standard that is used in registration, collection, analysis, publication and publishing of data relevant to monitoring trends in the labor market in Montenegro, provide communication for users of results from the use of carriers, and their communication with data providers.
As national statistical standard combines the needs of all users, whether it’s interest in the data of individual interest or group data users. SKZ as a statistical standard isn’t the basis for determine the rights and obligations of legal and natural persons.
SKZ is a multipurpose, internationally harmonized tool that is suitable for use in service employment, education system, professional orientation, etc., then the national statistics, other statistical studies, science, etc.. It is used for classification of jobs in the public interest and administrative databases (records, registers, databases) and statistical surveys, which provide consistent data for statistical, analytical and scientific monitoring of occupational structure of the active population as well as claims for work. International compliance is ensured adherence to the principles and system of the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08), which has been in force in the Member States of the European Union.
