Monthly deflation in August was -0.2%, while the annual inflation down to +1.7%


Monthly deflation measured by Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices was -0.2% in August. This was influenced mostly by the decrease in prices of vegetables; fruit; accommdation services; books; oils and fats. Annual inflation in August was +1.7%, and it is lower than in July, when it was +2.2%.

When observing the main groups, monthly drop of prices was noticed in the following groups: Recreation and culture (-1.3%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (-1.0%); Restaurants and Hotels (-0.5%); Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-0.1%); while a drop of prices was recorded in groups: Clothing and footwear (+2.2%); Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+1.6%); Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+0.8%); Miscellaneous goods and service (+0.6%).

Positive annual inflation rates in August were observed in the following groups: Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+7.8%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+6.0%); Miscellaneous goods and services (+3.6%); Health (+2.2%); Clothing and footwear (+1.9%); Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+1.9%); Education (+0.2%); while negative annual inflation rates were observed in groups: Restaurants and Hotels (-4.8%); Recreation and culture (-1.9%); Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-1.6%); Transport (-1.5%); Communications (-1.4%).
