Municipal waste in Montenegro 2017

The release comprises selected statistical data on the amounts of generated and collected municipal waste in 2017.
 
In 2017 Montenegro generated 324 155 tons of municipal waste or 0.6% more than in 2016. According to estimated number of inhabitants in Montenegro middle of the year 2017, each inhabitant generated 520.8 kg of municipal waste per year in average or 1.4 kg municipal waste per day.
 
In Montenegro from total amount of generated municipal waste 292 762 tons of municipal waste were collected, including the subgroup 15 01 – packaging (including separately collected packaging waste in municipal waste). The public utility enterprises collected 282 282 tons of municipal waste (96.4% from total amount collected municipal waste). Remaining amount of municipal waste were collected by other enterprises that have the permit for collecting of municipal waste and citizens that brought municipal waste directly to the landfill sites. In 2017 in average for each inhabitants of Montenegro were collected 470.4 kg of municipal waste or 1.3 kg of municipal waste per day.
 
In 2017, public utility enterprises mostly collected other municipal waste, which includes mixed municipal waste 80.0%, followed by waste from gardens and parks of 12.3%, followed by separately collected fractions of 7.6% and packaging waste with 0.1% of collected waste.
 
The total number of permanent employees in the utilities which have permission to perform the public service of collection and disposal of municipal waste from the Secretariat for Local Government in 2017 amounted to 2 649 employees (as of 31.12.2017.).
 

In comparison with 2016, in 2017 the number of days in which waste was collected increased for eleven days.
