MONSTAT Representatives Participate in IPA Training on the European Statistical System
Representatives of the Statistical Office of Montenegro (MONSTAT) participated in the IPA training course "The European Statistical System (ESS) – Active Participation in the ESS and ESS Meetings by IPA Partner Countries", held in Podgorica on 23–24 July 2026. The training was organised within the IPA 2022 Multi-beneficiary Statistical Cooperation Programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by ICON-INSTITUT Public Sector GmbH.
The training was aimed at strengthening participants' capacity for active participation in the European Statistical System (ESS) by enhancing their knowledge of its institutional and legal framework, governance, the European Statistics Code of Practice, as well as the functioning of ESS Working Groups and other ESS bodies.
During the two-day programme, participants discussed key topics related to the functioning of the European Statistical System, including its institutional organisation, coordination of national positions within the framework of European statistical cooperation, the role of ESS Working Groups and other ESS bodies, as well as the current challenges facing European official statistics. The programme also included practical sessions dedicated to the preparation for and active participation in the work of ESS bodies.
The training was delivered by Kim Voldby Pedersen, former member of the management of Statistics Denmark and an expert with extensive experience in the European Statistical System and in the fields of institutional development, management and quality of official statistics.
Continuous professional development of employees represents an important element of the institutional capacity development of the Statistical Office of Montenegro. Participation in international training programmes contributes to strengthening staff competencies, enhancing international cooperation and further aligning the work of the Statistical Office of Montenegro with the principles and standards of the European Statistical System, in line with Montenegro's European Union accession process.
