Dwellings by availability of installations

The release presents the results of the 2023 Census of Population, Households, and Dwellings on the number of dwellings by availability of installations, and by the type of energy mainly used for heating.
In Montenegro, 285 734 dwellings for permanent housing were enumerated, out of which 214 530 are occupied dwellings, while 71 204 are temporarily vacant/abandoned dwellings (empty dwellings).
Out of the total number of permanent housing dwellings, 277 252, or 97.0%; have access to the water supply system; 276 184 or 96.7% are connected to the sewage system; 178 275 or 62.4% have air conditioning.
According to the methodology for preparation, organization, and implementation of the census, questions about the equipment of central heating installations and the energy used mainly for heating were collected only for occupied dwellings.
Of the total number of occupied dwellings, 30 453 or 14.2% have central heating installations in the dwelling.
When it comes to the energy source that is predominantly used for heating, of the total number of occupied dwellings in Montenegro, 93 675 or 43.7% of dwellings for heating predominantly use electricity; 106 811 or 49.8% use firewood; 11 442 or 5.3% predominantly use wood pellets/briquettes; while 2 602 or 1.2% predominantly use other types of energy sources for heating.
