The Census of Agriculture 2024 – final results
Agricultural Census was conducted in period from 1 October to 1 December 2024, in accordance with the Law on the Agricultural Census (Official Gazette of Montenegro No 77/2024 of 5 August 2024) and valid Regulations 2018/1091, 2018/1874, and 2021/2286 (EU) of the European Parliament and of the Council,and uniform standards of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The final data of the agricultural census comprise data on: number of holdings; persons participating in agricultural production; available land; utilised agricultural land; livestock; housing for housing livestock; irrigated area; machinery and equipment; and holdings affected by natural changes or disasters.
Having in mind that there have been changes in the international and national legislative framework in relation to the Agricultural Census 2010, in order to ensure comparability of data, recalculations of certain data were made in line with the valid criteria from the Agricultural Census, and in line with the EU criteria.
According to the final results of the Agricultural Census 2024, the total number of agricultural holdings in Montenegro is 26 711. Agricultural holdings in 2024 used 248 279.6 hectares of agricultural land.
The total number of bovines in agricultural holdings was 68 600, sheep 167 344, goats 28 184, pigs 52 272, and poultry 1 361 403. The total number of labor force working on agricultural holdings was 54 753 persons.
